I was arrested in Suffolk County for a DWI. Will I have a criminal record?
It depends. It is important to recognize that DWI driving while intoxicated is a misdemeanor in New York State. Any conviction will result in a permanent criminal record. A successful resolution of your case might result in a plea reduction or plea bargain where the charges are reduced. An example might be that the prosecutor offers to reduce the charge to driving while "impaired by alcohol" in exchange for your plea of guilty. The benefit to you is that such a conviction is a violation of the law, not a crime. You would not have a criminal record.
