I was arrested in Suffolk County for a DWI. How long will a DWI stay on my record?
That depends on the final outcome of your case. A DWI (non-felony) Driving While "Intoxicated" is an unclassified misdemeanor in New York State. It is a crime, and any conviction will result in a permanent criminal record. If the DWI misdemeanor is reduced in court pursuant to a plea bargain, such as Driving While 'Impaired" by alcohol, that is considered a violation of the law, not a crime, and will not result in a criminal record.
